COLOROPHONE

Dominik Osiński, NTNU

Colorophone is a sighthearing experience. It allows perception of visual information through your ears. The device will open a whole new world of possibilities for many of the 40 million blind people around the world.

Novel color sonification method inspired by the functions of human visual system and developed on basis of cross-modal correspondences between senses allows intuitive auditory color perception.

The Colorophone system contains 3D printed glasses equipped with camera, ultrasonic distance measurement system, processing unit and bone-conducting headphones. The information about color and distance is coded to auditory signals and conveyed through cheek bones to your internal ear.

Colorophone can also be used to induce artificial color-to-sound synesthesia, which allows perception of visual art through your ears. Have you ever heard Picasso? You will have this opportunity at Technoport.
