Jon Olav Vik is an associate professor of biostatistics at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Ås. He leads the researcher project “the digital salmon”, which is part of the national consortium for biotechnology, Centre for Digital Life Norway. The project lays the foundation for a library of mathematical descriptions of how the salmon body works, integrating mathematics, data analysis, informatics and measurement technologies with genomics and experimental biology.
Vik holds a PhD in theoretical ecology from NMBU (2002) and has a rich background in quantitative biology, e.g. how to incorporate genetic variation in multiscale modelling of heart problems, statistical analysis of how climate modulates population dynamics, and development of a research infrastructure for systems biology.
